Which glue tool should I use?

Confused about the glue tool? Check here for more tips!

Most songs benefit from use of the glue tool. The glue tool helps smooth out the little gaps between segments so the subtitles appear less jerky on screen. It can also help fix common AI timing mistakes.

There are two ways to glue:

G glue tool

Glues everything together but skips line breaks. Use this at the start of editing by selecting all (ctrl + A) or selecting multiple lines, and then:

  • G — align right: stretches each word's end forward to meet the next word's start. (extends)

  • Shift + A — align left: stretches each word's start backward to meet the previous word's end. (snaps back)

Be careful not to accidentally glue over actual gaps in between words in one line.

A glue tool

Glues individual sections that you select yourself and doesn't observe line breaks. Select a section that is sung together and press:

  • A — align right: stretches each word's end forward to meet the next word's start. (extends)

  • Shift + A — align left: stretches each word's start backward to meet the previous word's end. (snaps back)

You can also use A/shift A to glue multiple lines together after using the G glue tool, if there are no gaps in the singing between them.

How do I know whether to use shift? Check the waveform!

A or G: For subtitles that are too short or jerky, when the start timing of most segments is correct (the word starts at the right place, the waveform peak):

Before

After

Shift A or G: For subtitles that are starting a bit late, often words that start with vowels (segments start visibly later than the shape on the waveform):

Before

After
